Sweet Success!

Opps! Try Again.

{All Things New}

Okay, so I am not the best when it comes to writing. I do, however, want to try and share with you the joys and heartaches that I have experienced along the way.

About 1 year ago my mom found out that the company that she worked for was moving their offices/work out of state. She would not be allowed to follow. I had been working at a a school photography company as well as working independently taking children and families portraits when time allowed, for the past 2 years. During this time I also made the best decision of my life to join a gym to start getting healthy. I have had the most amazing journey learning to eat healthy foods, workout safely and strengthen my mind, body and spirit. One day while I was working out I thought it would be a blast to work at the gym. SO I got an application to work in the child care center and I was hired 1 short month later. This was perfect as the photography work I was doing at the schools was slowing down. Things were good, even with my mom not working and not really finding any work. God was providing for us.
Shortly after starting at the gym, I meet one of the moms during a water boot camp class. She had just moved to the area and was still meeting people. Well, the least I can say is we hit it off right away! There were many classes that we would go to together and we would get in trouble with the teachers for talking. After one of the spin classes, we were talking with the teacher and she was surprised to hear that we had only known each other for 2 short months. I could not imagine in a million years that I would be moving out of state by the time school started in the fall.
Needless to say, after some major discussions, praying and seeking God it was decided that my mom and I would move to Valley City North Dakota. It was a decision full of heartache and lots of joy too. Moving meant leaving my brother, his wife and their 3 year old daughter, my new found best friend, my fab personal trainer and awesome gym. I couldn’t imagine what life would be like without them. But I was excited for a new adventure to begin in my life. I was moving to the state that my mom had grown up in. The city, er small town, that we were moving to was nice and quiet. It would be a much needed breathe of fresh air. My mom had 2 siblings that live there along with countless other family members. My sister and her husband had also just moved out to Vally City within the past year. I was excited to reconnect with family.
Here I am 6 months after making the decision to move, 5 months after actually arriving here and I am loving it! I do miss my family and friends dearly, but I have already had the chance to go back and visit them over the holidays. My mom and I have gotten our own place, and are finally getting settled in. I am happy to say that I only have 2 more boxes of stuff to unpack (and they are those things that were thrown in a box just to get them packed!) I do have to say it is much, much colder here than in California, but the snow makes it worth it, uh I mean being near family and reconnecting with them makes it worth it.
Now, I am working on getting my photography business up and running here in North Dakota. Along with the many changes that came with the move I have decided to change a few things with my business. Some changes come from the fact that some business things are run different here. Some come from the fab photography school I got to attend in Sept. Finally, some of the changes are being made to make a fresh start of things. I am excited to announce my new name: Sophia Ann Photography! I am working on my website, blog and many more things. Changes will be made through out the next couple of months. My goal is to have a grand opening when school starts. I am still taking sessions and will be offering some special deals during this time of construction to thank you for your patience!
I am looking forward to meeting so many new people along way. Thank you for giving me a chance to work with you.

I leave you with a picture from a drive down a country road:

Sailing fun for Erin’s B-Day! Thanks for the great idea an awesome opportunity. :)

{Nicole + Dustin} Alameda Wedding Photographer

My baby sister got married Sunday. Sniff, Sniff. I just can’t believe it!

So when life throws you a curve ball what do you do? Well, she plans a wedding in a week. It was wild, chaotic and crazy, but beautiful and well worth it to be able to share this special moment with family and friends that couldn’t join us in North Dakota. Nicole and Dustin had planned on an August 1st wedding in North Dakota. But since finances are short and emergencies came up, we switched it up a little. A few close friends and family here in California were able to witness the joining of two special hearts. And then off to North Dakota we go on Monday to share a special ceremony with their family that lives there.

Here are a few moments that I had the honor and joy to capture during the ceremony and some alone time after it all ended.

Fun Session at the park!

{Chris + Martha} Walnut Creek Engagement Photographer

I was so excited when Chris and Martha wanted for me to do their engagement portraits. I have known Martha since I was 9 years old…and she would have been 5! Martha and my sister have been best friends through all those years. They are actually each others Maid/Matron of Honor in their weddings! I love to see friendships like this continue to flourish even through life’s ups and downs, going away to school, and having a serious boyfriend (now fiance.)
Like always, I had a hard time choosing my favorites and ended up editing a lot of the pictures, before I did the sneak peek. :) Chris and Martha, I pray that you will have a long and happy life together!

{Remy} Berkeley Child Photographer

I got the chance to take sweet Remy’s pictures again this year. Last year I did a studio session for her 8th birthday. This year we had a blast out at Tilden park. Remy got to ride the carousel and see, feed, and pet the animals at Little Farm. In between, we would capture some beautiful portraits of her! It was really hard to pick out my favorite! Miss Rem is so photogenic. Happy Birthday! It has been a joy and honor to watch you grow into the young lady you are today.

{Nicole + Dustin} Clayton Engagement Photographer

I had the pleasure of photographing my sister and (soon to be) brother-in-law’s engagement pictures. They are such a sweet couple and I pray that they will have a long and committed life together with God and each other. They have been a great example [to me] of a couple who is putting God first in their lives and relationship. Thank you for this awesome opportunity Sis! ;)
*I took way too many pictures (how could I not!) so I couldn’t just chose a few to show!

{Remy} El Cerrito Child Photographer

I have been watching this beautiful young lady since she was 2 years old. It started out that I worked at her day care. I overheard her mom asking if anyone knew of a good baby-sitter. On the way out to the car I told her that although I did not live nearby, I had a car and baby-sat. That was 6 years ago. And now she just turned 8 years old. I have since then had the opportunity to not just baby-sit her, but go to birthday parties, take her shopping (FUN!) and go to Disneyland with Miss Rem and her mom. It has been a blast getting to know her and watch her grow up. These are just a few of the pictures that I got last time I was with her! (BTW – she used to hate dressing up and taking pictures. Now she is a playful and wonderful model, whose favorite music to listen to is Hannah Montana while doing a photo shoot!)

I LOVE these images of her twirling! A family friend of theirs made this beautiful dress (and the blue one as well) for Remy.

This beautiful little girl is my first niece! At only 4 days old, Miss Bella slept most of the time. She arrived safe and sound to a mom and dad that were so anxious to meet her, and a big extended family that loves her as well. Enjoy this sneak peak of such a sweet angel.
